STAGE TWO:...i never thought that i would lose my mind
Chapter Six...part one
[January 24, 2003]

It had been a week and there was only a little improvement. Sarah had begun to remember being friends with Hannah, Lance, and Kevin...and even more, she was starting to realize that Kevin was a good friend...but the "best friend" position was still filled by Brian. She grew closer to Jenny after a few nights of staying up and talking in their room about the past (the "happy past" with the Boys). However, there was still a wall there between Sarah and Jenny, Chin, and Julie. She still believed their friendships were because of the Boys. And the fact that she had forgotten about Hannah and Lance--although still bothered both of them, they simply tried to be around Sarah when they could, as if to remind her of how close they once used to be.
Nick and AJ were always there for Sarah, helping her with anything she needed, along with Brian. Cathy had sat with her a few times talking about when they were younger...and Sarah knew the majority of it...but there was something missing...there were four girls missing. Cathy wanted to remind Sarah of everything that had happened between the six girls, but she didn't want to push it. Sarah had to remember things on her own...they couldn't force it onto her.

"Sarah, sit down!" AJ jumped to his feet and grabbed her before she could reach the ringing phone. "I'll get it." She laughed; AJ, Brian, and Nick had been at her feet all week. They had been doing everything for her; grabbing her a drink, making her bed for her, and even trying to feed her. (She had slapped Nick's hand for trying to do so and gave him a what-the-hell?-I'm-not-a-baby look until he backed off.) She watched as AJ picked up the phone.
"Hello?" he asked. "Where are you?...Yea...No, it's okay. I can come and get you...umm...I believe Kevin is right outside so he can...all right. I'll be there soon. Yea..." AJ looked up to see Sarah watching intently. He smiled at her and turned back to the phone. He said the words: "Yeah, love you, too. Bye."
"Chin?" Sarah asked as AJ placed the phone back in its cradle. He nodded and went to grab his keys.
"She needs me to pick her up. She tried Brian's cell, but he's supposedly still shopping with Miss Jen," AJ winked at Sarah. Holding up his keys, he signaled for the door. "Gotta go. Kevin will keep ya company okay?" Sarah shrugged and turned to the book in her hands. AJ watched her for a moment and ran off. On his way out, he told Kevin to spend time with Sarah.
"Sarah!" Kevin yelled from the garage door.
"Come and play some ball." He trotted into the family room with a basketball under his right arm. Sarah looked at him for a second. Was he insane?
"I don't like basketball..." she slowly replied, confusion crossing her face.
"Oh..." Kevin raised an eyebrow. "Sorry, forgot." He weakly smiled, dropping the ball to sit down beside her. "What are you reading?"
"My old journals," she sighed. "I don't remember so much of this stuff...I thought I only knew Julie through Nick? Did I know her before? Or is this Julie a different one?" She pointed at an entry that was describing about some concert trip, with a Julie, dating a few years back.
"I'm, um, not sure, " Kevin replied, grimacing at the fact that they almost had to lie to her. It was for her benefit wasn't it? To keep her happy? To help her ease back into life, not bombard her with things she couldn't remember?...He watched her continue to read. What if she read something recent? About all the fighting...the tension...the--Kevin grabbed the journal out of her hands. "Let's go do something," he said, taking her hand and pulling her off the couch.
"Where are we going?" she asked. He turned around to face her.
"I don't know." Kevin shrugged. "You want to go rent some videos?"

"Whatever, Brian," Jenny sighed and pushed open the car door.
"Stay longer," he pleaded walking around the car to meet her.
"Brian, I will stay as long as I can, but I can't promise anything," she said, turning.
"Please..." Brian grabbed her arm and pulled her back. "Please stay until her memory is back."
"That could be years, Brian," Jenny stated. Before Brian could reply, the door flew open. Sarah and Kevin appeared, a smile on her face and a smirk on his.
"What's going on?" Kevin joked. Brian and Jenny were only a few inches apart with her hand in his. They abruptly pulled away from each other at Kevin's comment before it registered that it was Sarah in front of them.
"Nothing," Jenny smiled softly, inching back towards Brian.
"I got everything you wanted," Brian grinned at Sarah, his arm slipping around Jenny's waist.
        "Thanks."
"We're going to get videos...You two wanna join us?" Kevin followed Sarah to her car. Jenny shook her head.
"We can stay and get ready for a movie night. I'll tell everyone," Brian offered.
"Sure," Sarah grinned as she swung open the passenger-side-door. "Thanks again, Brian."
"No sweat. What are best friends for?" Brian headed to the trunk of his rented car, holding Jenny's hand. Both noticed that Kevin flinched. Jenny nudged Brian's side and he nodded, noting to stop saying "best friends."
"Sarah, stop stealing my man." Jenny pretended to pout.
        "He's all yours," Sarah laughed.
"What are you trying to say?!" Brian exclaimed.
"What are you trying to say?" Jenny squinted at him. He turned to give her his most innocent smile.
"Nothing..." he sang, opening the trunk door and revealing bags filled with food.
"You guys want anything?" Kevin asked. Before Brian could say anything, both Sarah and Jenny jumped to it.
"Don't even think about it," Jenny clamped her hand over his mouth.
"Quick, Kevin, let's go." Sarah got into the car. Brian pretended to bite Jenny's hand; she yelped. Then he pouted.
"I was just going to say we could have a Jim Carrey movie night..." he whined.
"We know, " Jenny laughed with Sarah. Jenny grabbed two bags and headed inside. "C'mon, buddy. If you shop, you can't leave stuff in the car."
Kevin smiled as he backed the car out. Sarah was fiddling with the radio. This was really working...everyone was actually getting along well...Please let this last even after Sarah's memory comes back...

[four days later]
"This is the life," Lance grinned, his arm around Hannah.
"I'm failing at this worrying thing..." Jenny muttered to Brian. He shushed her.
"Everything will be fine...I talked to your professors...they understand," he assured her. She sighed and looked up at him. His smile...His eyes... He wrapped his arms around her; Jenny collapsed into them. His arms...she missed everything...Why had she let him go so easily? Why did they always have to argue? That was the worst part...the constant arguing...it hurt...a lot...
"I know what you mean," Julie added.
"You guys ever quit worrying?" Nick whined.
"You ever quit whining?" Hannah smiled. Nick stuck his tongue out at her.
"Don't worry," Kevin placed a hand on Julie's shoulder. "I called your boss...and he understands too...he said you worked too hard anyway and they were going to make you go on vacation with pay," Kevin laughed. Nick smirked.
"See? Everything will be fine...Just like Brian said." Nick pulled Julie down next to him. She leaned back into his arms.
        Whoa...Nick flinched.
        "You okay?" Julie turned around.
"I'm fine...random twitch," Nick assured her. She smiled before turning back into her previous position. What is wrong with me?...Nick asked himself...but he knew what was wrong. He was still head over heels for the girl in his arms...all she had to do was be in his arms and shivers would run up his spine. Shit...
"BBQ is ready!" AJ called out from the backyard.
        "BBQ?" Brian snorted.
"You mean bar-be-queue?" Nick corrected, a grin spreading across his face.
"Whatever!" AJ said, rolling his eyes as he walked in from the patio.  "At least I know where I resign...oh wait...is it reside?"
"Shut up!" Nick pouted. "That is SO OLD!" Julie laughed and hugged him. How good it felt to be with him again...even if it wasn't real...
"Guys?" Sarah stepped in after AJ.
"Yea?" all six guys jumped to their feet if they weren't already standing. Sarah laughed.
"Easy there," she smiled. "Are we ready to eat?"
        "Yea. All set," AJ reported.
"If anyone feels like popcorn..." Cathy ran outside, "I refuse to make it." Everyone laughed.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Nick said innocently.
"Okay, we got a fruit buffet going on in the kitchen..." Jenny stated.
        "Where's Howie?" Kevin questioned.
"I think he's declaring it 'Howie's Buffet'..." Sarah informed.
"I don't think so!" Brian and Nick jumped to their feet. Cathy popped her head back inside.
"Don't be too rough on him!" she yelped.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" everyone heard Howie yell. They laughed and headed outside.
        "What's wrong with her?"
"What?" Julie asked, as everyone turned to Sarah. When she didn't answer, they followed her gaze to see Chin on the balcony. She was sitting on the ledge, her back to them.
"I'll get her..." AJ spoke up and ran off.

        "You alright?"
"What?" Chin looked up and saw AJ.
        "You okay?" he repeated.
"I'm fine, " she smiled weakly and returned her gaze to the floor. "Just thinking..."
"Come down and eat lunch." AJ reached a hand out for her.
"Not very hungry," Chin spoke quietly.
"Hon, what's wrong?" AJ stood next to her and wrapped an arm around her waist. Chin would never have had to deal with Rebecca if I just didn't...didn't what? Don't kid yourself, AJ...He told himself. Chin looked up in surprise when he enveloped her in his arms. "Sorry...Sarah is watching," AJ whispered.
"Oh..." Chin tried to hide her disappointment in his statement and looked away.
The best two years of your life were the two years with her..."Or that could be an excuse..." AJ shrugged, glancing at Sarah as he pulled Chin off the ledge and drew her close. Her eyes widened.
        "What?"
"Nothing...Come have lunch, okay?" AJ pleaded. Chin smiled softly.
        "Okay..."

"Where's Howie?" Cathy raised an eyebrow when Brian and Nick returned with two huge melon halves, one for each.
"Taking a shower." Both Boys grinned.
"They're a cute couple," Sarah cooed when she watched AJ bring a smile to Chin's face.
"What?" Brian exclaimed, he threw an arm around Jenny, "and we're not?"
"Not as cute as us!" Nick taunted as he placed an arm around Julie's waist.
"HAH! Well we top all of you..." Lance exclaimed as he jumped to his feet. "Hannah and I are the cutest couple."
"That's what you think!" Nick crossed his arms. The girls laughed.
Kevin glanced at Sarah. If only...

[that night]
Jenny yawned. It had been a tiring, no, restful day. She smiled. She had spent the entire day in Brian's arms. And here she was, going to spend more time with him. Get a grip, Jenny told herself...But then she thought of him and refused to do so. No. Just enjoy it. Maybe just for this week...or month. She smiled again. It was for Sarah, wasn't it? Just as she reached the guest room, she heard Brian and Nick arguing.
"Nick, for crying out loud, take one of my sleeping pills. You need it!" Brian exclaimed.
"No! I don't want to!" Nick barked back.
"Nick, you've gotten into some freakish cycle of sleeping for about two hours at a time. Your body deserves rest. Take it." Brian shoved the bottle at Nick.
"Brian, I am not taking any stupid pills. I don't need sleep. I just need coffee." Nick made a move for the door.
"No! You are not getting any more coffee." Brian stood in front of his best friend.
For a moment, sleep did seem nice to Nick...but then all he could think about was the crash...and Rebecca's visit in the hospital... Screw Brian. I need coffee. "Do you want more bad things to happen, Brian? Do you?" Nick tried to push past Brian. "I can't sleep because it's not worth it!"
Before either of them could say something, someone knocked on the door.
"Brian?" Jenny's voice filtered through. Brian gave Nick a don't-you-dare-move look and turned to open the door.
        "Hey," Brian breathed.
"Sarah suggested I give you a hug goodnight before she turned off the lights," Jenny smiled. Brian laughed and opened the door for her to come in. "Hey, Nick."
"I was just leaving," Nick muttered.
        "Nick!" Brian yelped.
"Do you want me to go?" Jenny backed up a bit.
        "No...stay." Brian took her hand.
"Good night, guys." Nick left. He trotted down the stairs. He was heading for the kitchen. His eyes felt droopy...
        "What are you doing up?"
"What?" Nick looked up to see Julie making some hot chocolate. A smile spread across his face.
        "Want some?" she offered.
"Sure..." he breathed. He settled down in one of the stools, by the counter, and watched Julie pour him a cup, completely forgetting about his coffee.
"It'll help you sleep, you insomniac..." Julie grinned and handed him his cocoa.
"What ever you say." Nick downed the cocoa. Their pretend relationship had done them a world of good; even when Sarah wasn't around, they got along well. He could actually talk to Julie now; she wasn't running away to her work, or locked up in her room to be too busy to see him.
"Julie," Sarah said, walking into the kitchen. "Make your boyfriend sleep!" Nick and Julie smiled.
"Yes ma'am," Julie saluted. She poured Sarah a cup and washed Nick's and her own before walking around the counter to him. "Come on...Time for bed," Julie laughed as she held her hand out for Nick. He took it eagerly. Both said good night to Sarah before heading upstairs.
"Those two," Sarah laughed. Finally, Nick will get some sleep...
Sarah was right...Nick did get some sleep...in fact...he slept till noon the next day.

[Next day, 6 p.m.]
        "Pass."
"Huh?" Kevin turned around, his gaze leaving the basket, to see Sarah standing at the end of the driveway, her hands on her hips.
"Stop hogging the ball..." She rolled her eyes and walked up.
"I though you said you didn't like basketball?" Kevin knitted his eyebrows.
"What is wrong with you? I love basketball." Sarah stole the ball from him and shot a two pointer. "I thought you knew me better?" She chucked the ball back at him.
She's remembering!...Kevin grinned. "A little one-on-one?" Kevin suggested, twirling the ball once he rebounded it.
"What do you think?" Sarah grinned and stole the ball again.

Nick stared at the pictures. Damn...How many girls did I date?
He dumped every picture out of every pouch in his wallet, creating a small pile on the bed. "A lot. Too many to bother to count," he muttered to himself. In the middle of the pile, his eyes caught sight Julie's picture. He smiled at it and studied it for a bit. He placed it separate from the pile of girls.
He looked through the numerous pictures. He laughed at a few good memories for some of the pictures of girls and got disgusted with himself and the pictures at the memory of dating certain girls that were going out with him just for his money and fame. When he was done, he collected the pile and dumped all of the pictures in the trash.
When he turned back to the wallet lying on his bed, he noticed the one picture left. "Julie," he breathed. He picked it up gingerly. "The one that meant everything..." He sighed and slipped the picture back into his wallet where he could see it every day. He got up and turned to go leave the room. He stopped dead in his tracks.
She was standing in the doorway.

Chin stared at the ceiling. What was she going to do? What could she do? How would she tell him? Would it make a difference? ...Chin turned over to her side and her eyes fell on a familiar picture frame...a familiar picture. It was the one Zach had stolen and ran around the house with; she had forgotten tuck it back into its secret place; away from her eyes...the picture of her and...Chin sighed. Why can't I let him go?

Brian sat at the balcony, staring straight out in front of him...The clouds are growing dark...Rain...He squinted. That can't be rain...it was so nice the other day...Rain... Always something to remind him of her...Jenny, Jenny, Jenny. "Is that all you can think of?" he scolded himself.
"Who you talking to?" someone giggled. Brian turned around.
        "Hey, Jen..."
"Hello. Mind if I bother you?"
        "You could never..." he whispered.
        "What?"
"Nothing...sure...come sit." Brian patted the spot next to him. Jenny smiled and sat down. "What's up?" He placed an arm around her...two seconds later Brian realized he didn't have to 'pretend' to be with Jenny and pulled away. "Habit..." he shrugged.
        "No sweat..."
        "So what's bothering you?"
"Nothing really...Just bored. I went to pester Chin but she groaned and directed me to you...I think she was in a thinking mode."
        "Rebecca?" Brian sighed.
        "AJ?" Jenny suggested.
"So what do you want to do?" Brian changed the subject.
"Stare at the sky?" Jenny wiggled her eyebrows.
        "Very funny."
"Well, that's what you were doing...It seemed like so much fun."
        "Fine. Challenge coming up..."
"Oh really? What might the challenge be?" Jenny cocked her head to the side.
"Whoever stares at the sky for the longest and doesn't start getting antsy, wins." Brian crossed his arms over his chest.
"You're on...and the winner? What does he or she get?"
"If I win...you do whatever I want you to do...and if you win...vice versa," Brian decided, shifting into a more comfortable position.
"So I could just order you to clean the entire house...and you'd do it?" Jenny gave Brian a cheeky grin.
"Sure...But if I win...I could ask the same thing," Brian grinned back.
"Okay. Shake." Jenny stuck out her hand and Brian shook it. "You're on." Both turned to look at the sky.
Brian stared into the mounds of clouds presented to him and his mind began to wander...
[flashback: 1 year ago, January 2002]
Brian glumly followed the group that trooped through the airport. What reason did he have to smile? His girlfriend was flying off to New York and leaving him behind...Brian looked up to see Jenny's smiling face as she hugged everyone. They had reached her gate. Ever since she had decided to leave, their relationship had been on the rocks. She kept cutting dates with him because she had interviews...or had fallen asleep at the library studying...or she was just too busy with work to even talk. All because she had decided to graduate early to go to New York.
"Stupid internship..." Brian cursed under his breath. So she had been accepted for an internship...Did she have to pack up and leave? He had just decided to settle down somewhere nearby so they could be together more often...and this? What was this?
"Hey, mister," Jenny spoke softly. It was his turn for good-byes.
        "Don't go..." Brian pleaded.
"Please don't start that again..." She placed her hand on his cheek. "Brian...We've talked this inside out...We're at the airport now...I'm leaving."
"Don't..." Brian took her hand and enveloped her into a hug...one of the ones that made her melt into a big puddle. He knew it, too.
"Brian..." Jenny struggled out of his arms...no matter how much she didn't want to. "Don't do this to me...to yourself..." she looked up at him. "To us."
"What us?" Brian growled. "If I do recall correctly, I am the only one who appears for the 'dates'..." He narrowed his eyes. Jenny sighed.
"Gate 14, now boarding." the loudspeaker announced.
"I give up, Brian. I can't do this anymore...You hear me? I can't. I can't sit here and feel guilty all the time for trying to reach my dreams, Brian. You've already reached yours...It's my turn...Be happy for me." Jenny pleaded.
Shit...This is it...She's really leaving... "Jenny, our relationship is not going to get better if you leave. Don't go..."
"So what are you trying to say?" Jenny retorted, "You'll break up with me if I leave?"
"I ...I  don't know." Brian was caught off guard. He didn't mean that, did he? He glanced up at the others. They were nervously fidgeting around with other things, pretending not to be listening.
"Well, figure it out real soon, Brian. The plane is boarding NOW." Jenny impatiently tapped her foot.
        "Jenny--"
"Gate 14, now boarding...Last call." the loudspeaker announced again.
"Brian, I have to go...I'll call you when I get there, okay?" Jenny kissed him on the cheek. He flinched. She was going to just leave that easily?
"Jenny..." he grabbed her wrist. "Don't give up so easily."
"It's now or never..." she urged as she spun around. "Now or never...What is it going to be?"
"I...I  don't know!" Brian threw his hands up in the air.
        "Well I don't either..."
Jenny looked him in the eyes. The gaze held for only a moment.
        It was over.
Jenny closed her eyes and turned to walk away. Brian watched silently as she handed her ticket to the flight attendant.
"Jenny, wait!" he called out. This can't be it...This can't be it...Jenny turned around for a second. This is it...
[end flashback]
Brian shook his head. How often would he think about that day? How long until he stopped thinking about it? That, and the day she had allowed him to dance with her in the rain--
        "You lose!"
"What?" Brian turned to see Jenny smiling from ear to ear.
        "You lose," she repeated.
        "Lose what?"
"Brian, are you okay?" Concern crossed Jenny's face.
"The bet?" Welcome back to reality, Brian...He lightly slapped himself.
"Hey...I didn't order you to slap yourself." Jenny grabbed his hand. "Are you alright? Do you need some water?" she asked, peering at him through narrowed eyes.
"Maybe I should get some water," he sighed.
"Let's go." Jenny held out her hand. "But don't think you're getting out of the bet this easily..."

        "Nick...I..." Julie turned away.
"No...Tell me. Tell me everything. I hurt you. I'm a jerk. I'm shit...I hurt the girl that means the most to me...I hurt the person that means the world to me."
        "Nick..."
        "Shout. Scream. Curse...I deserve it."
        "Nick--"
        "Yell..."
"I'm getting there. You going to let me finish?" Julie snapped. Nick nearly jumped at the tinge of anger in her voice. He'd never heard a mean word come out of her mouth...Hell, he'd never even heard her yell before.
"I trusted you..." she almost hissed. "Trusted you with everything...my heart...my soul..." Julie breathed. "We'd survived a breakup twice--didn't that mean anything to you?" Her voice was rising, though quivering. "You promised me you would never shatter my heart...You would never ever do something so cruel to me... You swore you'd never hurt me... You swore you loved me...Didn't you say that, Nick? Didn't you say those very words the night we...we..." Julie was close to crying.
        "Made love?" Nick timidly offered.
"Yes, Nick...at least I thought that's what we did...Didn't we?" Julie was almost yelling now, but apparently not loud enough for the whole house to hear. "Do you know how much it hurts, Nick? I gave you everything. I gave you all of my heart without doubt. And that night I let you take something from me that I can never have back...And you? You turned around and you said that you had to go make sure that I'm the one? Just try, just try to explain that to me, because I faked accepting your actions when you asked me for my permission. Running off like that to 'test the waters' was like you had stuck a knife in my heart and just decided to keep on twisting. Explain it to me, tell me why the hell you made me feel like I could not live another day with the pain, why I continuously questioned myself over what I could have possibly done wrong, why I learned how to avoid you like the plague because even seeing you made me want to scream and cry..." her voice was faltering. She looked him straight in the eyes, her own brimming with tears. "Just tell me why, Nick, because I DO NOT UNDERSTAND!" Julie screamed. Over a year of pent up anger finally boiled over...This was what he had done to her...

[7:30 p.m.]
        "AHHHH!!!!!!" Sarah yelled.
"I'll get the ball! You go inside!" Kevin attempted to shield himself from the pouring rain. After he retrieved the ball, he jogged after Sarah into the house.
"Here..." Hannah chucked a few towels at them.
"What's going on?" Brian entered the living room.
"It's pouring outside, " Jenny piped up.
"The TV is talking about thunder," Cathy joined the crew.
        "...and lightning," Howie added.
"So no movie night tonight?" Lance pouted.
"I don't see why not," Sarah dried her hair.

"...I promise not to be stupid anymore...I'm so sorry. I just...freaked out after that night. I never thought I could feel so strongly for someone...I...it scared me. I was head over heels for the first time in my life and I didn't know it," he sighed. "I know now, Julie...I know...Life without you is just...It sucks..." Nick looked up at the girl sitting next to him. She nodded slightly. They had been sitting for what seemed forever, talking. Julie had finally calmed down after awhile and collapsed on the bed...muttering about how no matter how much it hurt...she still loved him. Their discussion had gone on from there.
"Yea...Life sucks without you too," she smiled. Nick scooted closer.
"Give me another chance?" he pleaded, resting his head on her shoulder.
"I don't know, Nick," Julie sighed. "I don't think I can handle that pain again."
"Please, Julie. You yourself said we survived two break-ups...Why can't we do it, one last time?...One more chance...One...That's all I need...I'll prove to you that it'll be worth it...please?" Nick took her hands in his.
        "I don't know..."
"One..." Nick breathed. "Julie, you're my soul mate. I know, I hurt you. I don't know what else to say to make you change your mind. I'm miserable without you. Please...let's try it again." He was giving Julie his best puppy dog eyes.
"I hate you..." she pouted. She was giving in! Nick was about to go jumping around the room.
"So you'll give me another chance?" Nick grinned, he turned her face to his.
"Let me think about it..." Julie smiled, their faces growing closer and closer...
The lights went out. Nick grunted.
        "Dammit."

        "AHHHH!!!!!!!!" Chin shrieked.
        Black out.
The storm had caused a black out.
No lights...? Chin shuddered. She hated the dark.
"Chin!" Sarah yelped. "Don't scream! You scared me!"
        "Sorry..."
"Where are the flashlights?" Kevin spoke from somewhere in the room.
"This way?" Cathy turned to her right. Her pointer finger hit Jenny's side.
"Cathy!" Jenny yelped and slapped the person next to her.
        "OW! Jenny!" Howie grumbled.
        "Sorry!" she giggled.
"Flashlights should be in the kitchen, right?" Sarah shuffled forward, trying not to run into anything...
        "Oof."
        "Whoops...Sorry, Kevin," Sarah laughed.
"I'll get candles," Chin spoke up.
        "I'll help, " AJ offered.
"What should we do?" Hannah spoke quietly.
"We can just grab anything that produces light and meet back downstairs," Kevin suggested.
"I think I have a flashlight in my room," Cathy tugged on Howie's sleeve to follow.
"I have one too," Hannah mumbled.
"Okay...so Lance go with Hannah and Howie go with Cathy to get more flashlights," Kevin ordered.
"Yes, sir," Lance saluted but then realized nobody could see him.
"Chin and AJ, you guys are on candles," Kevin noted.
"On our way, " Chin shouted from the stairs.
"We can meet in the family room--" Kevin began.
"FOUND SOME!" Click. A single beam of light flickered on from the kitchen.
"Go, Sarah," Brian whistled. Sarah returned and handed Kevin a flashlight, who then turned it to the only people left in the room with them.
"What do you want us to do?" Jenny shuddered. Brian pulled her close and took her hand, remembering that she didn't enjoy thunder. Kevin smiled when he saw the look on both of their faces. They're still completely in love with each other...
"Go get Nick and Julie?" Sarah suggested.
"Where's Julie?" Jenny knitted her eyebrows.
"JULIE? WHERE ARE YOU?" Brian shouted.
"UPSTAIRS  WITH NICK!" The four people in the living room raised an eyebrow.
"So now we know where both of them are..." Brian wiggled his eyebrows.
"Here." Sarah handed over her flashlight. "Take this and go find them."
"We'll wait for you guys in the family room," Kevin sighed.
