"Ohhhhmmmyyyygosssssshhhhhh...ahhhhh Briiiiaaaaan stooooppppp!!!!!!"
Jenny yelled as Brian swung her at a high speed around a bend in the skating
rink.
"First time I've heard 'gosh' in awhile," he laughed as she regained
her composure.
"I try not to use unnecessary words, thankyouverymuch," she tried
not to laugh.
First, when they had arrived at the mall, they had gone to see a movie.
Now they had been skating for almost two hours and Jenny was getting tired
when Brian had begun to pull her around the rink. They soon decided to get
a snack. On their way to the food pavilion, Jenny tripped and knocked Brian
over. Both were laughing hysterically as she helped him up. Jenny noticed
an elderly couple who had sat down by them as they ate.
When they got up, the old lady pulled her aside.
"He's a keeper dearie, don't let him go," she smiled at Jenny. The
old man had spoken to Brian too.
"I wish you both luck, sonny; be careful and you'll be together forever."
He winked at Brian before both left.
"Well that was odd," Jenny said.
"Yeah...they thought we were a couple," Brian tried to laugh.
"Yeah..."Jenny sighed. There was an awkward silence as they continued
to wander aimlessly around the mall.
"Aww! Look!" Jenny grinned and pointed to a window. In it, there was
a litter of about six puppies. She pulled Brian inside the pet shop. "Ohhh,
you're such a sweety, aren'tcha?" Jenny cooed as she picked up a puppy and
nuzzled him.
"You really like Goldens I take it?" Brian smiled and picked up a
puppy too.
"Yup," she laughed, "Especially this little fellow," she said playing
with the same puppy. While she was busy cooing she didn't notice Brian talking
to the sales clerk or see him pull out and use the cell phone.

"CRAP! SOMEONE GET THE PHONE!" Hannah yelled from outside. Everyone
was busy fixing up the house or out buying Jenny a present, so I ran to the
phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey."
"Oh hi, Brian. We're almost ready, if you're wondering."
"Good."
"So what's up?"
"Well, Jenny's distracted right now. I, um, gotta do some stuff without
her here--"
"You mean get her a present? Most of the guys are out doing that.
I don't think they like house work," I cut in and laughed.
"Yeah..."
"By the way, thanks for taking her out and keeping her busy."
"No problem."
"So you need her out of the way so she won't see you shopping for
her?"
"You could say that...can someone come pick her up?"
"Sure, I will; when do you need me there?"
"As soon as possible."
"Okay, I'll be there in a few."
"Thanks. Bye."
"Bye." I hung up and ran for my keys, yelling that the house had better
be ready in about fifteen to twenty minutes when I would bring the birthday
girl home. Brian and Jenny left the pet shop and showed up outside just as
I pulled up. I got out and Brian told Jenny he had to get something for Nick,
and that he had called me to take her home so she wouldn't be bored. She
thought nothing of it and came with me. She gave him her keys so he could
get home later. I wondered what Brian was up to. I took the long way home
but she didn't notice. She was too busy bubbling over with the events of
the day.
When we got home, I honked before entering the garage. I saw the other
cars were back...thus the people who had left were now back with their presents.
It was a warning for the people inside, but I just told her my hand had slipped
onto the horn. We got out and headed to the door. I opened it and all was
dark. Jenny didn't care and walked straight to the family room, intent on
flopping on the couch. I followed, trying to hide my grin. When she stepped
into the family room, the lights flew on, everyone jumped out, threw streamers,
and screamed "SURPRISE!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!"
Jenny stood silent for a moment, in shock, while the rest of us smiled.
"You didn't...!" she exclaimed.
"We did!" we laughed. Jenny almost cried, she was so shocked and so
happy. We all led her to the dining room table where a pile of presents sat.
I ran to get the camera. We all sat around the table and urged her to open
them. One by one each box was stripped of the wrapping paper. There were
many OOH's and AHH's in the room. All she could do was say thank you over
and over again. Soon she had opened them all.
"We were gonna sing to you, but we're missing Brian," AJ stated. We
heard the door close from the garage.
"I'm right here!" we heard Brian yell. We got up and met him in the
family room. He was carrying a huge box.
"What is that!?" Jenny asked.
"Your present." Brian grinned. "C'mon, open it soon, or it'll get
mad."
"What...?" Nick asked confused.
"Just open it, Jenny!' Julie laughed as Brian set it down on the ground.
Jenny knelt down beside it and inspected the box. The wrapping paper was
part of the box; all she had to do was slide off the lid, which she did.
Immediately, a golden fuzzball attacked her.
"YOU GOT ME THE GOLDEN RETRIEVER!?" she screeched, cried, and laughed
as it licked her all over.
"Yup," he grinned.
"Aww, thank you so much! I LOVE HIM!" she giggled. We all cooed. Eventually
we got turns to hold it. Darwin and Kezia came in to inspect the new arrival.
As the dogs played, we got to the subject of a name for the puppy.
"Man, Rok, you went all out, didn't you?" AJ laughed.
"Why not? She wanted it!" Brian smiled.
"That's it!" Jenny exclaimed picking up the puppy and held it so her
nose touched his. "Roky, your name is Roky," she smiled.
"How sweet!" Cathy and Chin cooed.
"Heh, Bri, how does it feel to have a dog named after you?" Nick laughed.
"Proud," Brian replied.
