"Um, yeah..." I looked at Julie,
and Jenny, trying to figure out who told them. "What did you guys talk about
while we were locked out...?" I asked.
"Oooooohh nothin'," Jenny grinned.
She had told them.
"When did you start singing?" Brian
asked me.
"In third grade. This was my last semester
in the choir. I'm gonna be past the age cut-off next semester," I sighed.
"Choir? Like in church? In school?"
AJ asked.
"Neither, it's just a choir, non-profit,
that has different levels and sings in different places. We tour, too. I've
been to Italy, France, Austria, Germany, England, and Wales with them,"
I paused, "I'm bragging, aren't I?"
"No, don't worry, you aren't!" Nick
assured me.
"Well why don't you sing something,
dear Sarah?" Jenny asked me, still grinning. I glared at her.
"Yeah!" Julie and Hannah agreed. I
shot looks at them also.
"No..." I tried to find an excuse.
"I, I...I don't have a good voice...I-I'm only good singing in a group."
"Then how do you explain singing the
national anthem more than once for your high school events? Hmmm?" Jenny
asked me. I wanted to kill her and she knew it.
"We can sing with you, if you want,"
Lance suggested.
"Ummm...no thanks."
"Why not?" Nick asked.
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Just because."
"That's not a valid answer."
"And what is?
"A 'yes'."
I grumbled.
"Well if not the guys, how's about
US?" Julie put her arms around Jenny and Hannah's shoulders. "You know WE
can sing!"
"SURE we can..." Hannah laughed.
"...that is, if you want every glass
in the vicinity to break!" Jenny finished, grinning.
"Uhhh...no." I shook my head, smiling.
"C'mon! You GOTTA sing!" Jenny wailed.
I looked at them and crossed my arms; I felt like a kid.
"But I don't want to," I stated.
"Don't be like Nick," Julie warned.
"HEY," Nick said, "I am not a KID..."
We ignored him.
"Well, what would I sing...that is,
IF I was going to?" I asked.
"How's about that song you like. You
know, one of the few NOT by BSB?" Hannah asked smiling, trying to remember
it.
"Very descriptive, Hannah," Julie smiled.
"No...I don't know..." I stubbornly
answered, still not wanting to sing.
"Yes you do!" Hannah accused me.
"Nuh-uh."
"I know it anyways," Jenny announced.
"It's 'Have You Ever?' by Brandy, riiiiiiiight?" Of all the songs I liked...she
knew she was right. I reluctantly nodded in defeat.
"C'mon, let's hear this famous voice
of yours!" Brian said.
"It's not famous..." I timidly stated.
"We're waaaaiiiiiting..." AJ stated.
"OW!" Jenny elbowed him.
"Don't push her," she harshly whispered.
"But you are...OW." AJ decided
to shut up.
"Why thank you, Jenny," I said.
They were waiting, silently, watching me. I pleadingly looked at them.
"Go for it," Nick said. I sighed.
"Don't kill me if you must run a cover
your ears," I warned. They nodded. "I'm just gonna sing the chorus twice
cuz otherwise you'll get bored." They nodded. "I really don't wanna do this."
They nodded. "Is all you can do is nod!?" They nodded. I sighed again. I
started...."Have you ever loved somebody so much, it makes you cry? Have
you ever needed something so bad, you can't sleep at night? Have you ever
tried to find the words but they don't come out right? Have you ever? Have
you ever?" I paused where the song paused, and tried not to look at anyone.
"Have you ever been in love, been in love so bad, you would do anything,
to make them understand? Have you ever had someone steal your heart away,
you'd do anything, to make them feel the same? Have you ever searched for
words to get you in their heart, but you don't know what to say, and you
don't know where to start?" I paused remembering to skip the chorus; I kept
my eyes on the white wall on the other side of the room. AJ attempted to
switch seats, but Jenny hit him and indicated for him to stop moving. "Have
you ever found the one, you've dreamed of all your life, you'd do anything,
to look into their eyes? Have you finally found the one you've given your
heart to, only to find that one, won't give their heart to you? Have you
ever closed your eyes and dreamed that they were there, and all you can do
is wait, for the day when they will care?" Nick shifted in his seat, diverting
my attention for a split second. I just KNEW I was somehow screwing up. Was
I blushing? Was my voice quivering cuz I was nervous!? "What do I gotta do
to get you into my arms? Baby...what do I gotta say to get to you heart?
To make you understand, how I need you next to me? Gotta get you in my world,
cuz baby I can't sleep." I was almost done. Lance looked like he was going
to say something, but Hannah shushed him. "Have you ever loved somebody so
much, it makes you cry? Have you ever needed something so bad, you cant sleep
at night? Have you ever tired to find the words but they don't come out right?
Have you ever? Ooo, ooo...Have you ever?" I sighed.
"Bravo!" AJ stood up an applauded.
So did everyone else. They were just trying to make me blush; it worked.
"Told ya!" Jenny said. "Isn't Sarah
a good singer?"
"Oh shut up," I said.
"No, really, you can sing!" Brian said.
"Plain voice and all, whatever, but,
um, thanks." I wanted to get off the subject. "So what do you guys wanna
do now?"
"Hear you sing more," Kevin said.
"Haha, NO...I'm serious," I replied,
swatting his shoulder
"It's 'beat up on ALL the guys' day!"
AJ chuckled. "OW!" By now, we were getting used to AJ's vocal reflexes...
"Hey...remember, um..." Brian started,
glanced at Nick. "FOOD!" he and Nick said in unison, smiling.
"You guys waited like what," Hannah
said looking at her watch, "...about 1 and a half hours almost? And you ate
before that. I don't think you're that hungry...!" They nodded their
heads vigorously.
"But see, our hunger has grown
..." Nick explained. Brian bounced up off the couch and ran to a phone in
one of the bedrooms, as if he had gotten an idea. He casually walked back
5 minutes later with a smile.
"I assume you ordered food without
asking us what we wanted...?" Jenny asked with her hands on her hips.
"Um, uh, yeah..." he gave a sheepish
grin. "Don't worry! You'll like it!"
"Uh-huh SURE we will." Hannah smiled
and crossed her arms.
"So what else we gonna do besides pig
out on whatever Brian ordered...?" Lance asked.
"Ummhowsaboutamovie?" AJ asked.
"What!?" Jenny asked confused as us.
"Separate your words!"
"How's about a movie?" he restated
and made a face at her.
"Like what?" Hannah wondered out loud.
We sat and thought. Jenny got a gleam in her eye and looked at me. I nodded,
but then shook my head.
"What's this? A secret code of movements
going on?" Kevin questioned. "What are you guys 'discussing'?"
"You explain, Sarah," Jenny said with
a grin, knowing I didn't want to.
"It's just Jenny and I really loved
this one movie...but she sorta forgot the obsession whereas I still have
it... all the hype of the movie is kind of dissipating; people are getting
sick of it. I wouldn't mind seeing it again, but nobody else would want to
see it..." I trailed off.
"What movie?" Nick asked raising an
eyebrow.
"Ummm, I don't wanna say..."
"Well then we can guess."
"No offense, but you guys suck at guessing."
"And why do you say that?"
"The monorail."
That stopped him for a minute, remembering
how they couldn't guess my heritage. He put on a goofy/serious face and attempted
to show that he was thinking really hard.
"Alrighty, I WILL figure this one out,
even if the guys help or not..." he vowed.
"Uh-huh, sure you will," I laughed.
Julie crossed her hands and rested
into the couch, "This should be interesting...!" The others agreed.
"Wanna make a bet?" he challenged me.
"No."
"You girls are NO fun!" AJ wailed.
We ignored him.
"Was it a love story?" Nick asked.
"You could say that."
"Present? Past? Future?"
"No. Yes. No."
"Fiction?"
"Yes."
"Historical fiction?"
I looked at him incredulously, "...uh
yes..."
"20th century?"
"Yes." Did he know it!?
"1st half of the century?"
"Um, yes."
"A lotta hype, eh?" he must have guessed
it.
"What is this!? 20 questions?!"
"I know it..."
"Nuh-uh!" Jenny shot up from her relaxed
position on the couch. "How?"
"I dunno, it's just how the gears turn,"
he smiled and tapped his head.
"There ARE gears up there?" AJ snickered.
We ignored him.
"So then what is it?"
Nick paused.
"TITANIC."
My mouth dropped open. He had guessed
it. He just sat there grinning like an idiot in triumph.
"HOW!?" Jenny chucked a pillow at him.
"It wasn't THAT hard," he laughed,
dodging the pillow. "I mean, you girls ARE teenagers..."
"AND WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN!?!?!?"
All four of us were immediately offended.
"Sorry, nothing, nothing," he put up
his hands in surrender.
"You're a teenager too, buddy," Jenny
smacked Nick upside the head.
"OW!" the blond boy exclaimed. AJ chuckled.
"Why does Leo attract all the ladies?"
Howie chuckled.
"WE DON'T LIKE LEO!" I screamed. "IT'S
THE MOVIE, NOT THE DAMN MAN!"
"That reaction came naturally, didn't
it?" Howie asked. "I take it you've had guys say that before." We nodded.
"You know, Train got a bit teary eyed
when we first watched it," Brian grinned, ratting on his cousin.
"Umm...so?" Kevin got a bit embarrassed.
"Awww, I think that's soo sweet," Jenny
smiled. "Sarah cried too ya know." She grinned at me. I glared at her.
"Ummm...I think I cried too," AJ hinted.
Jenny looked at him.
"Aww. So you're just a big, fluffy
teddy bear, arencha?" Jenny cooed as AJ smiled and nodded his head. "...a
teddy bear with different colors and tattoes and earrings..." she giggled.
He pouted.
Lance sighed, "So what are we gonna
watch?" We looked at him in shock. Had we just argued for nothing!? Hannah
swatted him. "What?!" he asked. She rolled her eyes. Nick got the point.
"I'm gonna go run down and check for
a phone book and find the nearest video rental store..." he got up.
"Nick, don't go alone," Kevin said.
"I'll go," Julie volunteered and got
up. Both departed.
"NOW what do we do?" Lance asked.
"Wait, of course," Hannah replied.
"Somebody's impatient...!"
"You know it," he grinned and attempted
to tickle her.
"AHH!!!!" she screamed, and grabbed
for something to beat him off with, a pillow. THWAP! "Take that, Lancey boy!"
She yelled hitting him, but he persisted in tickling her, or at least tried
to.
"Jenny to the rescue!" Jenny cried
out and began to THWAP Lance with another pillow.
"UGH! Guys, help me here!"
AJ took the opportunity to pick up
Jenny and swing her over his shoulder. She THWAPPED him mercilessly in the
head. "OW!...OW!...OW!..."
I could see my friends were in need,
so I decided to help. By this time, Howie had Jenny's arms held behind her
back and AJ was trying to tickle her. Hannah was crying from laughing so
much. I tried to pull Jenny out of Howie's grasp, but Kevin jumped in and
tried to prevent me freeing her...thus, I took a pillow and THWAPPED him.
Brian had not made motion to join yet, but then he stood on top of the couch
and yelled "PILLOW FIGHT!!"
~*~*~*(Nick and Julie's little journey)*~*~*~
Nick and Julie got into the elevator.
Nick hit the 'main floor' button. Silence.
The elevator hit the ground floor,
and they got out. There were many people checking in and out; luggage was
strewn everywhere. Nick and Julie got to the front desk. They asked the hostess
for the phone book; she said she could just dial directly from a small list
of numbers, and asked what number they needed. Nick asked for a video rental
store. It turned out that the movie had yet to be released on video, but
could be ordered through the pay-per-view system on the TV in each room.
"The thing came out in December. Three
months ago. Of course it's not on video yet....We're smart, huh?" Nick
joked.
"Yeah..." Julie nodded slightly.
"Lucky they have pay-per-view, huh?"
"Yeah..." Julie smiled, taking a chance
to literally think of how the whole day had been lucky. They waited
for the elevator to arrive. When it arrived, Nick pressed the 'top floor'
button once the got in. Julie leaned against one of the walls and looked
up at the ceiling. Nick leaned on the wall beside her and looked at the ceiling
as well. Silence.
"Julie...."
"Yeah?"
"Nevermind."
"What?"
"Nevermind."
"Um, okay."
Silence.
"Julie..."
"Yes...?"
"Can, um, oh never mind."
"Nick, c'mon, tell me."
"Canikissyou?" he spit out quickly.
"What? You mumbled your words."
"Nevermind."
"NICK..."
"JULIE..." he grinned mocking her.
"C'mon, tell me..." she smiled.
He sighed and took a deep breath.
"Can I kiss you?"
Julie stopped looking at the ceiling
and turned her face to him. He looked at her with questioning eyes.
"Ummm..."
"It was stupid for me to ask, never
mind."
"No it wasn't..." She trailed off and
thought. "Well...I don't know if you CAN, but yes, you MAY..." she grinned
a bit, correcting his grammar.
"Oh...I MAY, may I?" he said smiling,
turning his stance toward her, now leaning on his shoulder. She did the same.
Julie paused, then grinned again.
"Yes, you MAY. Of course, I don't know
if you CAN..."
"OH, so now you don't think I can?!"
he retorted.
"Oh, I didn't say that at all...!"
She gave an innocent look.
"Then why don't I just prove
you wrong, cuz you did..."
Before she could reply with another
teasing remark, Nick pulled her close and pressed his lips against hers.
