...Don't
Wanna Lose You Now...
Complete flashback:
Jenny & Brian's Breakup
[JANUARY 2002]
Brian glumly followed the group that
trooped through the airport. What reason did he have to smile? His girlfriend
was flying off to New York and leaving him behind...Brian looked up to see
Jenny's smiling face as she hugged everyone. They had reached her gate. Ever
since she had decided to leave, their relationship had been on the rocks.
She kept cutting dates with him because she had interviews...or had fallen
asleep at the library studying...or she was just too busy with work to even
talk. All because she had decided to graduate early to go to New York.
"Stupid internship..." Brian cursed
under his breath. So she had been accepted for an internship...Did she have
to pack up and leave? He had just decided to settle down somewhere nearby
so they could be together more often...and this? What was this?
"Hey, mister," Jenny spoke softly.
It was his turn for good-byes.
"Don't go..." Brian pleaded.
"Please don't start that again..."
She placed her hand on his cheek. "Brian...We've talked this inside out...We're
at the airport now...I'm leaving."
"Don't..." Brian took her hand and
enveloped her into a hug...one of the ones that made her melt into a big
puddle. He knew it, too.
"Brian..." Jenny struggled out of
his arms...no matter how much she didn't want to. "Don't do this to me...to
yourself..." she looked up at him. "To us."
"What us?" Brian growled.
"If I do recall correctly, I am the only one who appears for the 'dates'..."
He narrowed his eyes. Jenny sighed.
"Gate 14, now boarding." the loudspeaker
announced.
"I give up, Brian. I can't do this
anymore...You hear me? I can't. I can't sit here and feel guilty all the
time for trying to reach my dreams, Brian. You've already reached yours...It's
my turn...Be happy for me." Jenny pleaded.
Shit...This is it...She's really
leaving... "Jenny, our relationship is not going to get better if you
leave. Don't go..."
"So what are you trying to say?"
Jenny retorted, "You'll break up with me if I leave?"
"I ...I don't know." Brian
was caught off guard. He didn't mean that, did he? He glanced up at the others.
They were nervously fidgeting around with other things, pretending not to
be listening.
"Well, figure it out real soon,
Brian. The plane is boarding NOW." Jenny impatiently tapped her foot.
"Jenny--"
"Gate 14, now boarding...Last call."
the loudspeaker announced again.
"Brian, I have to go...I'll call
you when I get there, okay?" Jenny kissed him on the cheek. He flinched.
She was going to just leave that easily?
"Jenny..." he grabbed her wrist.
"Don't give up so easily."
"It's now or never..." she urged
as she spun around. "Now or never...What is it going to be?"
"I...I don't know!" Brian
threw his hands up in the air.
"Well I don't either..."
Jenny looked him in the eyes. The
gaze held for only a moment.
It was over.
Jenny closed her eyes and turned
to walk away. Brian watched silently as she handed her ticket to the flight
attendant.
"Jenny, wait!" he called out. This
can't be it...This can't be it...Jenny turned around for a second. This
is it...
She drew in a sharp breath
and fought back her tears. Her fingers lightly traced his figure as the
plane pulled away from the terminal. She could still see them all, standing
behind the glass, waiting to see her off. All their figures grew smaller
and smaller as the plane backed away. She could still see it in his eyes.
Why? She yelled at
herself, trying to prevent the tears from falling...why did you let
this happen?
Soon, she couldn't see any
of them anymore. The only view she was left with was just clouds and the
bright blue sky. It didn't fit her mood. She yanked down the shade and
leaned her head against it, breathing deeply. Slowly her eyes began to
close and she fell asleep... dreaming of everything she used to have with
Brian.
