SOAP BOX: BIG POPPA & CARBON COPIES

"Carbon Copies" used to be focussed on *N Sync, but my feelings changed a bit and what I had once said differs from what I want to say now. If you still want to see what I used to think, click here . Now, onto my new---if you want call it new--stance... I guess it's just a metamorphosis of my original thoughts.
This page is more of a focus on Lou and "Making the Band."
First off--I have nothing against the guysthat make up O-Town. I haven't watched the show, but it's a given that they worked hard and have dealt with a lot of crap to get where they are now.
It's just the whole concept that really gets to me.
It makes it seem like that's how BSB was formed--an open audition. That our Boys were taught how to sing and dance. That they were hand-picked. Completely formulated. The 1st successful "product" of the Orlando Bubble-Gum-Pop Factory.
That implication really bothers me. I don't know how NS started and I'm not going to say they're not original. What I'm saying is I know that BSB did not start the way it's portrayed in "Making The Band".
The show makes Lou look like some God who makes people's dreams come true. "Big Poppa", true and blue...can I gag yet? Also, within a short amount of time, O-Town is competing with BSB for the #1 spot on TRL. If you read my other soapbox, you'll know I don't really care about the whole #1 thing. What bothers me about this is yes, O-town worked hard, but not as hard as the Boys had to. In a way, it seems unfair that all they had to do was audition, get their faces on TV on a episode show, and BOOM, thousands love them...it took the Boys years to get to that status.
Also, it spurred the "Pop Stars" show, which bothers me as well. I guess the whole notion of completely formulated doesn't sit well with me. Go figure.
